Concept Labs is a new program from Revel Bikes dedicated to geometry experiments, one-off prototypes, and early-stage ideas. Revel is kicking off the program with Project El Jefe Grande, a 32-inch version of the titanium El Jefe hardtail. Take a closer look here…
The Revel Bikes Concept Labs is, in short, a place for all of the brand’s wacky ideas and one-off prototypes to exist for the world to enjoy, but not ride. “We spend a lot of time in the shop dreaming up ideas, testing theories, and building things that may never see a production line,” said Adam Miller, founder of Revel Bikes. “We think that process is worth sharing.”
Concept Labs will showcase various experiments and prototypes that may or may not become production bikes down the road. Either way, Revel says it reflects their “commitment to staying in conversation with the riders who use their bikes rather than disappearing quietly into a development cycle.”
The latest addition to Concept Labs is the Project El Jefe Grande. The project includes not one, but two titanium hardtails built to explore the 32″ wheel format. The first is an extra-large full 32-inch hardtail, and the second is a size medium hardtail with a 32-inch front wheel and 29″ rear wheel that Revel calls “Mega Mullet.”
Here’s what Mike Giese, Director of Product, had to say about the two bikes: “We’ve been watching the 32″ movement closely, and we got too curious to stay on the sidelines. So we built two hardtails. A size XL running 32/32, and a size medium Mega Mullet running 32 up front and 29 out back. Not because we know the answer yet, but because we think wheel configuration and frame sizing might work together in ways we haven’t fully explored. The right wheel combo could give a rider better fit and handling than sizing alone ever could. We’re in the testing phase. We’re learning. And honestly, it’s a blast.”
