Justin McKinley is back with another installment of his “Roads & Trails to the 2025 Tour Divide” video series. Speaking to prior experiences, Justin dives into his outlook on the “T-word,” being effective, injuries, and more. Watch it here…
Just McKinley’s ongoing series Roads & Trails to the 2025 Tour Divide is back with another installment, this time about his preparation. That said, this is far from your typical event prep video. Justin doesn’t go into detail regarding his training plan. Instead, he speaks to his outlook toward the very idea of training and how it’s somewhat at odds with his views toward the bike. Through his experiences as a two-time Tour Divide starter, Justin details a more practical, relatable view on preparation for one of the biggest rides of a cyclist’s life, and what it means to truly “train” for an event that spans weeks and thousands of miles.
Justin’s perspective is one that greatly resonated with me as someone with a somewhat tortured relationship to competition. Cycling is so many different things to so many different people. For many of us here at the site, it’s a tool for achievement. Something that allows us to push our limits and satisfy a need to go further, faster. But, for me, how we get to our ends is as important as the means. It’s a concept I think about a lot in relation to my own desires within the space and an idea that has kept me from burning out. At the end of the day, it should always be about fun. And I think Justin helps put that into perspective here.
