The new Sage Titanium Storm King V2 was just announced with added tire clearance, a new 3D-printed yoke and dropouts, modernized geometry, and a few other tweaks to “foreverize” the frame. Find all the details here…

We reviewed the original Sage Titanium Storm King back in 2020 and liked it. However, the Beaverton, Oregon-based company further “foreverized” their do-it-all gravel bike with a few interesting updates to make it even more compelling. Those include new 3D-printed parts to increase drivetrain compatibility and tire clearance and a longer geometry to modernize the platform. Read on for details.

3D-printed Bits

The most visually interesting changes to the platform are a new suite of 3D-printed frame parts. For starters, the Sage Titanium Storm King V2 gets 3D-printed dropouts. The all-new dropouts accommodate a Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) and were built around T-Type Transmission compatibility. Note that the dropouts shown on the custom-painted bike here aren’t the final versions. You’ll have to swing by their booth at the MADE Bike Show in Portland this weekend to check out their hot-off-the-press T-Type-compatible dropouts.

Sage also implemented a new 3D-printed chainstay yoke. The new yoke provides additional tire clearance and more geometry flexibility. According to Sage, it was essentially designed to fit bigger tires and still maintain the short 42.3-42.5mm chainstays they love.

More Tire Clearance

The new Sage Titanium Storm King V2 actually has two chainstay yoke options. Both yokes keep the same geometry across the rest of the frame, but the standard yoke features double chainring compatibility for 48/31 Shimano GRX and 43/30 SRAM Wide 2x groups or up to a 46-tooth single chainring. The new “Gravel+” Yoke is only compatible with 1x drivetrains with up to 44-tooth chainrings and wide spaced cranksets. It provides clearance for tires up to 700C x 50mm (2.0″) or 27.5 x 2.4″. The Storm King is specced with an ENVE Adventure Fork, which accommodates either of the mentioned wheel and tire sizes.

“Titanium bikes are often called ‘lifetime’ bikes because of the frame’s durability and repairability,” says Rosen. “By ensuring compatibility with current and next generation drivetrains, components, and all the tire sizes, the Storm King is truly a gravel bike we can ride for decades to come.”

Revised Geometry

The Storm King V2 also got a couple of significant geometry tweaks. For one, they stretched out the top tube and reach by a full two centimeters across the size range. This moves the tire forward, adding 20mm of toe clearance, which founder Dave Rosen says, “all but eliminates the chance of your shoes rubbing the front tire during aggressive maneuvering.” To accommodate this, Sage also specs the bike with shorter stems. Theoretically, these changes should make for a much more stable platform on descents or at high speeds. Here’s the full geometry chart from Sage:

The Sage Titanium Storm King V2 was also rebuilt with full internal cable routing and a shorter head tube to accommodate 40-50mm travel gravel suspension forks. Here are more specs from Sage:

  • 142×12 / 100×12 Standard Thru Axle Spacing
  • T47 bottom bracket
  • Internal Rear Brake, Shifter Cable, and Dropper Post
  • 1x and 2x Drivetrain Compatibility
  • Mechanical and Electronic Drivetrain compatible
  • 44mm straight headtube fits any fork
  • Made in USA 3/2.5 titanium tubing (US sourced)
  • 3 bottle mounts on all frame sizes (two inside, one underneath)
  • Dropper post routing optional

The Sage Titanium Storm King frame sells for a cool $6,000. Framesets are available from ~$6,500, and complete built-to-order bikes range from $9,500 to $14,000, including a choice of finish. Find more details over at SageTitanium.com.
