Salsa Cycles just announced the newest bike in their all-road lineup, the Warroad, which features their new “Endurance Road Geometry” and is designed as a road bike that can comfortably veer off pavement. Read on for an overview of the new Warroad, along with details on build kits, pricing, and more…

  • Max tire size: 700c x 35mm / 650b x 2.1”

In a departure from the unending race for the largest tire clearance possible, Salsa just announced the latest addition to their line of bikes, the Warroad. They call it their endurance all-road bike, and it features a new “Endurance Road Geometry,” specifically designed with long road rides that aren’t strictly limited to pavement in mind. As such, it’ll clear 700c x 35mm or 650b x 2.1” tires.

The Warroad’s carbon frameset weighs just 4 lb. 2 oz., including the headset, seatpost collar, and axles. It’ll accept 1x or 2x drivetrains, and is Di2 compatible, so you’ve got options, should you decide to build one up yourself. And it’s dropper post compatible with 1x or Di2. The front and rear thru-axles are spaced at 12 x 100mm (front) and 12 x 142mm (rear). It features flat-mount brakes and sleeved internal cable routing for an all-around clean look.

Warroad vs. Warbird

So, how does it differ from the Warbird, their flagship gravel bike? The all-new Warroad is intended for road riding with a bit of gravel on the side, whereas the Warbird is a dedicated gravel rig, with its longer wheelbase offering added stability. Comparing the two side by side, the Warroad’s 71° head tube angle is just a hair steeper than the 70.75° angle on the Warbird, the Warroad’s chainstays are 15mm shorter (at 415mm vs 430mm), and it has 2mm more bottom bracket drop (at 72mm vs 70mm). The engineers at Salsa have also built the Warroad to be torsionally stiffer than the Warbird in the bottom bracket juncture, head tube, seatstays, and chainstays, amounting to a frame that increases pedaling efficiency and has snappier handling, at the cost of some of the compliance and all-day comfort of the Warbird frame.
