There are many difficult and lengthy routes in the UK, but one of Scotland’s most brutal off-road tracks is the Badger Divide: a 210-mile epic with Shire-like views and over 17,000 feet of elevation gain. This summer, Terry Barentsen—a videographer best known for filming alley cats and fixed-gear races across the world—took on the Badger Divide with a group of friends. Terry is no stranger to long, hard bikepacking trips, as his YouTube channel is full of years spent riding in Amsterdam, across the entire US, and on parts of the Great Divide. Though he had nothing but good things to say about the scenery, roads, and overall experience in Scotland, the trip still had its challenges. Terry’s brakes failed, one member of the party broke their rack, and the climbs tested their resolve. Nevertheless, it was a trip worth remembering, and one well told throughout the video.
