Although we’re not yet sure what “e-bike rated” shoes are, Shimano’s 2021 E-Bike Touring shoe lineup looks like a promising option for those who spend equal time on and off the bike and prefer flat pedals for bikepacking. Check them out here…

As far as we can tell, Shimano’s “E-Bike Rated” shoes are just meant to be versatile flat pedal shoes for performance on and off the bike. All models are designed with soles stiff enough to pedal efficiently in without compromising walkability for hike-a-bike sections, which we think describes any bikepacking-friendly flat pedal shoe out there! Shimano’s 2021 E-Bike Touring shoe lineup looks ideal as a versatile flat pedal shoe and is offered in both men’s and women’s sizing. Check out the Shimano ET3 and ET5 shoes below.

Shimano ET3 Shoes

New for 2021, the Shimano ET3 shoe uses a semi-rigid midsole, a simple lace-up closure, and multiple large mesh panels for ventilation. The sole features Shimano’s 360° Traction sole block pattern, which offers better grip on various types of pedals and has a fairly aggressive sole on the heel and toe for extra grip off the bike. The midsole has a stiffness rating of 4, which falls right in the middle of the majority of Shimano’s off-road cycling shoes. The ET3 Men’s comes in Khaki, Navy, and Grey in sizes 36-48. The ET3 Women’s comes in Purple or Green and in sizes 36-44.

Shimano ET5 Shoes

The Shimano ET5 shoe shares nearly all the same specs as the ET3, but uses their Mini Power Strap alongside the standard lace up closure for a more dialled fit. It appears the ET5 isn’t new for 2021, but looks like another great option for those on the hunt for a do-everything flat pedal shoe. It’s offered in the same size range, in Gold or Blue in women’s and Black, Neon Yellow, or Red in men’s.
