The new Shimano GRX RX717 is an update from the Japanese brand aimed at affordability. Limited to the shifters and rear derailleur, the GRX RX717 features the same Bluetooth-oriented 12-speed shifting as the full GRX Di2 groupset, just at a slightly lower price point. Compatible with all of Shimano’s current GRX Di2 components, the RX717 range includes a right-side Dual Control lever, two left-side brake-only lever options (one GRX-branded, the other Shimano-branded), and the GRX RX717 rear derailleur.
Borrowing its design from Shimano’s MTB Di2 line, the RX717 rear derailleur features the same low-profile design, skid plate, protected battery, and Automatic Impact Recovery function. The shifters are similar to what’s already been released with the existing wireless GRX groupset, but also feature improved ergonomics and long-lasting CR1632 batteries, which are said to have a lifespan of about 3-4 years before replacement. For simplicity, check out the table below for a direct price comparison between the GRX Di2 group and the new RX717. Since the brand is only updating the shifters and derailleur, all consumable components are the same price. Still, Shimano itself says the new RX717’s wide-ranging compatibility is built to “allow riders to optimize performance based on terrain, style, and personal budget.”
