The It Takes Two frameset is Soma’s new tandem bike, inspired and co-signed by the folks at Rivendell Bicycle Works. It’s a “thoughtfully built, rock-solid, confidence-inspiring tandem that’s made for pure fun—whether that’s ripping around with friends or convincing your demure twin sister to jump on and ride shotgun.” The geometry is close to that of the bike it’s inspired by, the Rivendell HubbuHubbuH, with a relaxed seat tube angle and a long cockpit designed for upright, backswept bars.
Capable of bikepacking, the It Takes Two frame features front mini-rack and fender mounts and double eyelets at the fork and rear dropouts. However, Soma says users will need P-clamps to run a rear rack. The bike is designed for V-brakes, as the rear disc brake mount is intended for a drag brake. The guides along the tubes are for cables only.
The tandem also has four sets of bottle bosses and a kickstand plate. It uses a 1-1/8″ threadless headset, a 29.8mm seatpost, 100mm front and 145mm rear QR dropout spacing, and can fit 27.5 x 2.5″ tires. Capable of running a front derailleur, the It Takes Two uses a threaded, 68mm eccentric bottom bracket in the front, with a standard 68mm BSA threaded shell in the rear.
There is no geometry chart at this time, but Soma says that the size small fits captains with PBHs (pubic bone heights) up to 91cm, and the medium fits up to 97cm. The It Takes Two frames are now available in Tiburon Blue, come in just two sizes (small or medium), and retail for $1,995.
