The Sour Bikes Party Dome is an homage to Kona’s 1996 Lava Dome that served as a special showpiece at this year’s Bespoked show in Dresden. For more on this interesting Pasta Party hardtail build, check out the details below…

The Sour Bikes Party Dome is a special bike the German brand built for this year’s Bespoked Dresden, and while it isn’t a new model, it’s a fusion of a current offering with a paint scheme and build set to pay homage to the 1996 Kona Lava Dome. Using the Sour Bikes Pasta Party hardtail as a base, the Party Dome features a cool green and yellow paint scheme with a build kit from Hope, SRAM, and Manitou that gives the bike a uniquely 1990s look.

The bike also featured a custom crankset from Sour, which is officially a prototype but really more of a fun idea they wanted to build to add to their love for ‘90s mountain bikes. The Foolseye is made of 4130 Sweet Sour Chromoly steel, has an integrated 24mm spindle, and uses the SRAM 3-hole chainring mount. All other parts of the crank are CNC-machined from 7075T6 aluminum, yielding a total weight of 722 grams. Though the brand says it’s a bit heavy for what it is, they’re toying with the idea of taking this crank project further.

There’s no shortage of love for Kona bikes here on the site, and it’s cool to see the passion and personality of a brand shine through in their show bikes. Blending the aesthetic of ’90s mountain bikes like the Lava Dome with technology at the bleeding edge of today’s bike industry is easier said than done, and Sour really pulled it off.
