Built around a durable 4130 Chromoly frame, State Bicycle Co.’s 4130 All-Road series is value-packed, and it’s now available in both flat- and drop-bar builds with the release of the new 4130 All-Road Flat Bar. Like the drop-bar 4130 All-Road I reviewed, the 4130 All-Road Flat Bar is a breath of fresh air for its affordability and versatility. At just $899 USD complete, the new flat-bar version uses the same frame and fork as the drop-bar model but increases comfort with a flat bar and a shorter, more upright riding position.
Although it looks like a vintage mountain bike, the 4130 All-Road Flat Bar is actually quite modern. It has SRAM UDH rear dropouts, hydraulic brakes, a Microshift 10-speed drivetrain, and a 68mm threaded bottom bracket, but no dropper routing. It’s designed around 27.5″ wheels, with clearance for up to 2.4″ tires, but it also plays well with 29 x 2.25″ tires. The frame has fully external cable routing for easy maintenance, a 27.2mm seatpost, and thru-axles front and back.
The 4130 All-Road Flat Bar comes in four sizes, all with 450mm chainstays, 70.5° to 71.5° head tube angles, and a 75mm bottom bracket drop. The stock build is $899, with options to upgrade the fork, add racks, and even choose a specific saddle. Framesets (frame + fork) cost $479, and both options are available in three colors: Black Stone, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Schoolyard Yellow. Each color comes with a snazzy silver finishing kit, which is a nice touch for such a budget-friendly bike.
