The State 4130 All-Road was released in 2020, loaded with features that State Bicycle Co. believes makes it “one of the most capable and affordable bikes on the market for gravel, commuting, touring, and beyond.” It continues to be a popular and versatile option for those on the hunt for a sub-$1,000 gravel bike, based around a Chromoly steel frame and fork, loads of mounting points for racks, bags, and cages, and a variety of different builds in both drop-bar and flat-bar setups. Plus, completes start at just $899. If you haven’t read our review, find it here.
The latest version maintains everything great about 4130 All-Road but strips the paint away in exchange for a Raw Phosphate finish, showing off the beauty that’s normally covered with paint. State’s raw steel frames are finished with a matte clearcoat but can develop some patina/rust over time. For optimal care, State suggests spraying air through the frame to displace water after wet ride and spraying an anti-corrosion formula into all internally exposed areas every three months.
Just like the other builds, the Raw Phosphate 4130 All-Road comes equipped with a State-branded Sensah 1×11 drivetrain, mechanical disc brakes, 650b or 700c wheels, and the option for both complete wheelsets for an extra $389. State also offers various component upgrades for riders looking to squeeze a little more out of their bike.
