Designed around big 29-inch tires, a steel frame, and a rigid fork, the new Stooge MK8 is founder and designer Andy Stevenson’s take on the ultimate rigid mountain bike. Pre-orders are now open for the latest version, which includes a new fork and three color options. Learn more here…
The Stooge MK series has been revised eight times since 2014, starting with the Stooge MK1. There have been some significant refinements since then, but some things have remained constant. Namely, it’s always been a fully rigid steel mountain bike designed around big tires and loads of fun. The Stooge MK6 took the top spot in our 2023 Gear of the Year Awards, and the MK7 found a place in our 2025 awards as a top Collective Choice.
The new Stooge MK8 is nearly identical to the MK7 Logan reviewed and loved (pictured below), save for three new colors and a lighter triple-butted biplane fork. It’s still designed around a steel frame and rigid fork, three sizes, big 29″ or 27.5″ tires, and enough cargo capability to make a fine bikepacking rig. It maintains the new XL size, the additional mounts under the downtube, and room for a long dropper post without sacrificing frame bag space.
The most notable change is the updated fork. Stooge is speccing the MK8’s fork with a new triple-butted fork leg, so they’ll be significantly lighter and more compliant than the MK7 fork but still plenty strong enough for trail riding. Here’s what Andy has to say about the MK8: “In short, the mission remains the same, to keep producing framesets that transcend the humble status of the rigid bike, and turn us mere mortals into the golden gods of the hills, or something like that. The MK8 will make a great rigid trail bike and shreddy bikepacking steed.”
The Stooge MK8 is available in three fresh colors: Dark Sage, Aubergine, and Desert Brown. They are in production now and expected to land in the UK in late April/early May. A £120 deposit gets one reserved for you. For overseas orders, UK sales tax of 20% is deducted at checkout, so the price you pay will be £683.33 + postage (not including any local import taxes).
