The lighting specialists at Supernova in Freiburg, Germany, just announced a silver version of their powerful M99 DY PRO dynamo headlight. It maintains its unique turbo-charged “high beam” mode in a dazzling new polished shell. Find details here…

When I was in Germany for the Bespoked a couple of months back, Josh Meissner and I stopped by Supernova’s HQ in Freiburg at the tail end of a bikepacking trip, where marketing manager David Gedanitz excitedly gave us a tour of their facility and eagerly showed off and teased some upcoming products. Among the soon-to-be-released items was a striking silver version of their phenomenally bright M99 DY PRO dynamo headlight, which is officially available for purchase. The original version, which was released in 2022 and we reviewed here, was only available with an austere black housing, and this new silver rendition opens up exciting options for color-matching flashy builds.

Supernova M99 DY PRO

The Supernova M99 DY Pro is the world’s first dynamo-powered LED front light that offers a high beam function and conforms to Germany’s strict StVZO (Straßenverkehrszulassungsordnung, say that three times fast) road lighting code. It features a matrix of 11 LEDs with a cleverly engineered beam pattern and puts out up to 1,000 lumens and 200 lux to light up the night, making it a worthy choice for use on and off the road and through the depths of winter.

The M99 DY Pro comes with a five-year warranty and Supernova’s guarantee of 10 years of repairability. It weighs 120 grams without the included handlebar mount. One note is that I haven’t seen it mounted anywhere else than on the bars, which could be an issue for riders with large front bags. As for the catch, the silver M99 DY PRO comes with a hefty price tag of €335 ($353), including EU VAT, or €281.51 ($297) for buyers outside of the EU. If it’s any consolation, that’s only a €10 ($10.50) upcharge over the black version.
