This year’s Buckshot event in British Columbia challenged nearly 70 riders with freezing rain, snow, and unbearable winds, making the already challenging 430-kilometer route that much more difficult. Mike Coulter documented his sub-24-hour ride and put together an engaging 15-minute video from the event. Watch it here…

The Buckshot is a grassroots bikepacking event based out of Kamloops, British Columbia. Organized by Lennard Pretorius, who’s also behind the popular BC Epic 1000 event, the Buckshot is ideal for those looking to log some early season mileage or for anyone who’s not quite ready for the full 1,000-kilometer BC Epic 1000 event later in the summer. The route changes each year, but it always starts and finishes in the same location. This year, the course was roughly 430 kilometers with 6,000 meters of climbing, but with more than half the climbing in the first 130 kilometers, it promised a grueling start. To add an extra layer of difficulty, a treacherous storm system made an appearance early in the ride and only intensified as riders made their way along the route.

This was Mike Coulter’s third Buckshot, but it was easily the most challenging due to the wind, rain, and colder-than-expected temperatures he faced. He ended up finishing in 10th place out of nearly 70 riders with a time of 23 hours and 28 minutes. Despite an impressively fast time, he was shooting video throughout entire ride and put together a 15-minute video documenting his experience. Watch it below.
