You might recognize Dutch photographer, designer, and travel writer Martijn Doolaard from issue 03 of The Bikepacking Journal. He’s responsible for the cover photo and Cold Arrival, the story about his long journey south. That wasn’t Martijn’s first printed publication, however. Back in 2015, Martijn took a break from his career as a graphic designer and loaded up his bicycle to ride to China. That journey was documented in his first book, One Year on a Bike. In the follow up, Two Years on a Bike, Martijn recounts his meandering journey from Canada to the southern tip of Argentina. From the necessities on his bicycle, to vignettes about the desolate wastelands, vast cities, jungles, and Andean Passes, the book delves into what it means to be at home in the world while embracing a life of minimalism and long-term bike travel.
