Launched with a new variation of their U.P. 2.0 frame, OPEN claims their new U-Turn Adventure Fork is the world’s first truly integrated cargo solution system. Find all the details on this innovative new fork design below…
Launched yesterday, OPEN Cycle has announced what they’re suggesting is the first truly integrated carbon cargo fork. Dubbed the U-Turn Adventure Fork, it features a series of slots along the fork blades that allow cage-free mounting for things like fork bags and other bikepacking gear. The fork still has the capacity to use bolt-oriented cage systems for other designs or bottles via “cargo barrels” that can be inserted from the inside. OPEN says it allows users to attach any two- or three-bolt pattern cage to the fork through these barrels, and that the design of this system allows cageless systems to sit closer to the bike, stabilizing handling.
The fork is not available for individual purchase, but comes with the new OPEN U.P. 2.0 Adventure variant of the frame. The brand has split its all-rounder gravel bike into three distinct categories: the U.P.PER. 2.0, U.P. 2.0: Aero fork, and U.P. 2.0 Adventure. The first is the lightest, the second is the most aero, and the third is the most adventure-focused, with the U-Turn fork and cargo mounts along the frame. Frames start at $4,200 and are available in their Orange Pearl color. They’ve even made a fun and fast video with the fork in action:
It’s an intriguing design, and some on Instagram and in the comments of their blog post thought it was an early April Fool’s day prank. But what do you think? Is this something you’d be interested in trying, or does it overcomplicate an already solid means of attachment? Let us know in the Conversation below.
