Launched yesterday, the Velo Orange Rando frameset has made a highly anticipated return, and it’s sporting a whole host of updates and refinements. Learn more about the all-road Rando’s ground-up redesign and how your can pre-order one at a discount here…

After an extended period away, the Velo Orange Rando frameset is back, and it’s been completely redesigned with modernized road-endurance geometry that’s more in line with today’s road bikes, replaceable rear dropouts, springy new thin-walled steel tubing, a wishbone seat cluster, fresh paint, and more. Although the Rando is a little outside of what we’d typically cover here on the site, I actually own one of the original Rando prototypes from 2009, so I’ve been eagerly following the development of this new version.

Velo Orange Rando

In Velo Orange’s words, the new Rando “makes for an absolutely sublime all-day and all-night lightweight adventurer.” The fork has an elegant French-style bend that offers a timeless look while absorbing road chatter, and the new modular rear dropout system makes switching between drivetrain configurations a breeze, whether you want to run a wireless 12-speed group or a simple singlespeed/fixed-gear drivetrain. Rando frames will ship with vertical 130mm dropouts for standard rim brake wheels and a set of 120mm rear-facing dropouts for track wheels.

The frame will clear relatively narrow 700 x 38mm tires without fenders, and it’s intended to be used with 47-57mm reach caliper brakes (Velo Orange’s Long Reach Brakes are excellent). It has three sets of water bottle bosses (two in the main triangle and one under the downtube), mid-blade front rack mounts, fender mounts, and fully external cable routing. The Rando also has a 1 1/8″ threadless fork, 68mm bottom bracket and takes a 27.2mm seatpost. The frame weighs in at 4 pounds 9.5 ounces and the fork is 2 pounds 5.1 ounces.

The Rando is offered in a single metallic “Brook Trout” paint scheme and four sizes (S-XL) to fit riders from around 5’0″ to 6’6″ tall. Through the August 6th pre-order window, framesets are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $795 (down from $925).
