Vinco is a small sports eyewear manufacturer that says it’s reinventing the category through essentialist design and renewable material innovation. Read on to find details on their debut models, both of which are carbon neutral and derived from plants…
Launched at the tail end of 2022, Vinco is a newer name in the crowded eyewear space that seeks to distinguish itself from other brands by offering what it claims is the world’s first renewable performance eyewear. They say they saw an opening because, “None of the big brands’ products delivered panoramic protection, tailored comfort, ultra-lightweight, and rebuildable construction for a variety of active sports.”
Vinco’s frames are manufactured from a proprietary renewable material called Lignatura, a unique alternative to the fossil-fuel-based plastics found in models from many other brands. A bio-resin derived as a byproduct of the paper production industry, Lignatura is claimed to be ultra-resilient and carbon-neutral. It consists of 98% fir and beech wood fiber from PEFC-certified forests in Finland that use controlled reforestation practices. A small blend of flax, jute, and sisal fibers is mixed in to create the final product. All frames are manufactured in Italy at a facility powered by hydroelectric energy. Find details on the brand’s first models below, which were recently recognized in Fast Company’s 2024 Innovation by Design Awards.
Vinco Sola
Primarily geared toward use on the road, Vinco’s Sola glasses feature an ultra-panoramic lens to reduce eye strain in full-light conditions and protect your eyes from glare, wind, bugs, and debris. The Lignatura frames are paired with polyamide lenses and stainless attachment hardware.
They also come with adjustable temple tips for the perfect fit and boast stainless spring-cam temple hinges. The Solas are available in two sizes (134mm wide and 138mm) wide that weigh just 27 and 29 grams, respectively. They’re offered in four colors and come with a two-year warranty.
Vinco Terra
Likely more apt for many readers, Vinco says the Terra glasses are made for blazing trails, and its ultra-panoramic lens guards your eyes from trail dust and debris, dense foliage, and rain while enhancing contrast in mixed lighting. Just like the Solas, the Terras sport a Lignatura frame with stainless spring-cam temple hinges and adjustable temple tips. They’re also available in 134mm and 138mm sizes and two colors and come with a two-year warranty.
Regardless of size or color, all current Vinco models are priced at $249 and ship in plastic-free packaging. You can find more details over at VincoPerformance.com.
