Mainly performance-focused, the four fresh Vittoria mountain bike tires are said to offer the best of both rolling resistance and durability. Read on for the specifics on these new models, as well as updates on their existing line of mountain bike tires…

There are four fresh Vittoria mountain bike tires to dig into today, featuring new tread patterns, widths, sidewalls, and casing technology. Though Vittoria’s new Trail range extends beyond these four tires, these offerings run the gamut from light, fast gravel tires to aggressive downhill-ready mountain treads. Using the brand’s new Trail 4C tread, Vittoria claims the infused compounds minimize rolling resistance, maximize grip, and boost durability. These tires also feature 60 TPI casings, making for what they say is a supple, lightweight, abrasion-resistant, single-ply design, and are all tubeless-ready. For the specifics of the range, let’s dive into each tire.

Terreno XC Trail

The Terreno XC tires are more gravel than true cross-country mountain bike tires, with a slick, fish-scale-like center tread and some minor knobs at the edges of the tire. Available in two casing options, XC race and trail, the Terreno is said to be made for hardpack and when speeds are particularly high. Best on smooth, dry terrain, this tire is offered in 29 x 2.1, 2.25, and 2.4″ widths and weighs 780, 750, and 820 grams, respectively. The 2.4″ option also has a brown-walled variant that cuts 20 grams from the overall weight.

Peyote XC Trail

The Peyote XC Trail is the brand’s fast-rolling cross-country tire, with a tread pattern and height that sit between their other offerings. Supposedly delivering speed and control on fine, loose terrain, the Peyote features a fast-rolling alternating center ribbon and a Vittoria V-formation that is designed to channel away debris and maintain traction. An alternating mid-tread tapers into the cornering lugs, which is said to give the Peyote XC Trail a more predictable feel. This tire comes in 29 x 2.1″, 2.25″, 2.4″, and 2.6″ widths, weighing 790, 840, 890, and 960 grams, respectively. The 2.4 width also offers a brown-walled option that shaves 20 grams off its weight, bringing it to 870 grams.

Torrente XC Trail

The Torrente XC Trail is the first true trail-oriented tire of the bunch and features a “self-cleaning” design for the muddiest terrain. With larger tread spacing that is said to clear sticky, harsh mud as riders roll along, the alternating center ridge is designed for speed and provides sharp edges for traction. Siping on each lug is meant to grip wet roots and rocks hidden beneath the mud and to provide predictable rebound and control in tough conditions. The Torrente XC Trail is offered in 29 x 2.25, 2.4, and 2.6″, coming in at 820, 870, and 910 grams, respectively. The 2.4″ width is also available in a brown-walled variant and, like the other tires, it shaves 20 grams from the black-walled weight.

Mostro Trail

The Mostro is the only tire Vittoria classifies as a proper trail tire, designed for true, gravity-oriented riding. Made with progressive siping that seeks to balance control and stability, the ramped, leading edges provide climbing traction on rollers and technical sections. The Mostro’s wider spacing between knobs is part of what Vittoria says is “self-cleaning performance,” shedding loose soil and sticky mud as users roll along. The Mostro is also the only tire in the bunch made for both 29″ and 27.5″ wheel sizes, each featuring 2.4″ and 2.6″ widths. The 27.5″ sizes come in at 1,030 and 1,100 grams, while the 29″ tires weigh 1,000 and 1,150 grams, with the sole brown-walled option being the 29 x 2.4″ at 980 grams.

Vittoria’s existing mountain bike tires, including the well-known Mezcal, Barzo, Syerra, Agarro, Martello, and Mazza, have also been updated with the aforementioned Trail 4C tread and 60 TPI casings and have an extra, lighter, brown-walled version at the 29 x 2.4″ size. Like all the other new tires in the range, they are e-MTB compatible.

All of Vittoria’s new mountain bike tires retail at $94 and can be purchased directly from the brand or at their stockists. For more on Vittoria’s complete range of tires, visit Vittoria.com
