Here’s a rundown and thoughts on each of the relevant new improvements:
DUAL BAND GPS
Wahooo claims that the new ELEMNT ROAM’s Dual Band GPS provides “better accuracy in challenging environments where signals can be obstructed by dense trees and urban noise.” This seems like it could be a massive improvement over the BOLT, which struggles in thick forested singletrack.
64-COLOR SCREEN
The new Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM gets the same 64-color, high-contrast, scratch-resistant screen as the bolt, only it’s half an inch larger (BOLT is 2.2″ whereas the ELEMNT ROAM is 2.7″). Similarly, the ROAM also has color-coding for climbing grades as well as highlighting for various workouts workout modes.
32GB OF MEMORY
The new ELEMNT ROAM gets a massive upgrade on storage with an expanded 32GB memory, increased from 4GB on the former model. This allows you to increase your number of saved routes, detailed maps, and structured workouts. Note that the latest BOLT that we recently reviewed has 16GB of storage.
17-HOUR BATTERY
Nothing changed as far as the ELEMNT ROAM’s claimed battery life. Wahoo still specs it at 17 hours. That’s two hours more than the BOLT, which offers a claimed 15 hours.
SUMMIT SEGMENTS
Summit Segments provides color-coded climbs throughout the ride and allows you to see all the upcoming climbs along your pre-loaded route so you can prepare your legs or use it for cadence or a workout.
