After the unexpected announcement of their closure in 2023, Waterford Precision Cycles and Gunnar Cycles are back! Both storied brands will now be guided by the steady hands of Abra-Cadabra Fabrication, where they’ll be built in Durango, Colorado. Find details here…
We’re thrilled to report that beloved Wisconsin brands Waterford Precision Cycles and Gunnar Cycles have returned under new ownership after closing up shop in 2023 following three decades of operation. The closure took many corners of the cycling world by surprise, leaving a gap in the market for quality US-fabricated steel frames at a wide variety of price points and leading folks to wonder if someone would pick up the torch.

Longtime bicycle industry figure John Siegrist, his son, David Siegrist, and Brad Swaim answered the call, acquiring both brands under the Abra-Cadabra Fabrication name. Waterford and Gunnar bikes will now be made in their Durango, Colorado, facility, from which they also run Sanitas Cycles and do contract building for other brands.
“We’re excited to blend Gunnar and Waterford’s great designs and reputation with the capabilities of our team and facilities,” said David Siegrist, who’ll lead the effort. In addition to the names, Abra-Cadabra Fabrication also acquired the full range of Gunnar and Waterford designs and specs, which they’ll use to launch a refreshed product line later this spring.
“I’m so happy that we could pass Gunnar and Waterford on to people who’ve earned an excellent reputation for craftsmanship and who build quality bikes in the United States. They will bring fresh ideas to these brands but will still be guided by the wisdom borne of experience,” said Richard Schwinn, former owner of Waterford and Gunnar.
Stay tuned for more details and an announcement of the brands’ new websites later this month. We wish Abra-Cadabra Fabrication in this new endeavor and look forward to seeing more Waterfords and Gunnars out on the trails in the years ahead!
