Weekend Snapshot

Welcome to Weekend Snapshot, our new weekly series through which we’re excited to show off backyard rides, campouts, and more from our readers around the globe. To kick things off this week—since we haven’t started collecting submissions yet—we’re featuring three photos from three photographers taken during an outing last weekend in Oaxaca, Mexico. This three-day overnighter followed rugged singletrack and mellow dirt roads throughout the very area from which Huesos was rescued. He has really taken to the bikepacking lifestyle, running in his new pack along side Emma as they rip down trail (in matching outfits!).

One of the high points of the Hebras de Ixtepeji route – literally and figuratively – is reaching the Paledo Chico lookout tower, perched up a 3,080 metres. It’s a bit of a mission to get there for sunrise, especially as there’s a bit of a hike-a-bike to contend with. But the sweeping views across the Sierra de Juárez and the sweet slice of singletrack to get back down again make it more than worth it!

On this overnighter turned two-night ride, we kept on climbing into the mountains above Oaxaca City, Tour-De-Cass style. Coming from sea level, the 10,000-foot mountains were a little daunting. But the higher we went, the larger the wild agave plants seemed to get. This shot shows Cass rounding the corner toward the top of our Sunday climb next to a particularly large specimen.
