In this Weekend Snapshot, three readers whisk us to Alaska, Austria, and the Pacific Northwest. We join them for loaded bikepacking trips set against picturesque backdrops with unique textures. See this week’s community-contributed images and share a shot from a recent ride here…
Especially after hectic weekends when I couldn’t get out for any meaningful time on the bike, our Monday morning Weekend Snapshot series is a reliable well of armchair travel inspiration. Our 134th installment is no exception, and it once again highlights a trio of readers and their travels on two wheels. Join folks in Europe and two corners of the United States below, and once you’ve caught up on this week’s submissions, continue scrolling to find some related posts and a quick form you can use to share a shot from a recent ride.
Denali Highway, Alaska
By Corrine Leistikow
It was a perfect weekend for a solo out and back on the Denali Highway. Well, except for the bugs, that is. But the 1 a.m. sunset when I had to take a pee break was worth getting out of my tent. Not a bad campsite!
Washington State
By Gordon Black
The Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail runs east-west across a large portion of Washington. It’s a work-in-progress that will eventually be a rideable 290 miles of gravel across the state (a section in the arid part of Washington is undeveloped and presents issues in finding water). Our weekend trip ate up the the most scenic section along the Yakima River and far from the groan of the Interstate that shares much of the same route from the Columbia River to the Cascades foothills east of Seattle. It was a blissful trip other than battling winds on the return ride.
Austria
By Carlos Silvera
As I shared in an earlier Weekend Snapshot, I was invited to a wedding in Serbia, and I decided to go there by bike. I was inspired by the European Divide, which I rode last year, and I created a route from Brussels to the Balkans. This photo is of a lovely lake where I spent the night in the Verwall Alps before crossing into Tyrol.
Send Us Your Weekend Snapshot
We’ll be selecting three photos per week to feature in Weekend Snapshot. Send yours along for consideration, and if it’s selected, we’ll be in touch! Note: We prefer 3:2 ratio landscape-oriented photos.
