Today’s Weekend Snapshot transports us to Poland, New Zealand, and Italy to accompany three members of our global bikepacking community on recent getaways on two wheels. Browse this week’s photos and use the short form to share a shot from one of your bikepacking adventures here…
Rolling into another week, we look back at what a handful of our readers were up to during their recent time off. This time around, we’re dropped into two beautiful corners of Europe and a lovely little slice of New Zealand. Take a moment to soak in a striking mix of surroundings, then continue scrolling to find some gems from the archive and a quick form you can use to share a photo from one of your recent rides.
Baltic Coast, Poland
By Joshua Meissner
I’m finally on the road, cruising to Gdynia in Poland. Following the coastline, the Baltic Sea lies languid on my left. It’s cool white sand and warm salty water and repeating beach towns with ice cream and arcades. The wetlands echo with the plaintive cries of cranes. En route, an eclectic young adventurer rolls up and draws me into his whirlwind. We cycle, we swim, we play, we talk to strangers; we’re so different and yet somehow the same. Our three days together are a marvelous season.
Western Bay of Plenty, New Zealand
By Clive Somerville
Inspired by Fernwee videos (come back!), Micky and I lightly loaded our gravel bikes and rode from Rotorua to Tauranga via Okere Falls, the Kaikōkopu Trail, Paengaro, and Papamoa. We had a really very fun time and can’t wait for spring to come and to do more adventures. We captured a YouTube video, too, which is linked in my Instagram bio.
Fanes Sennes National Park, Italy
By Karen Ekman
Last night’s thunderstorm on the high plateau had me wake up and move camp in the middle of the night, hence I’m moving but barely awake. My brain is craving for espresso, but my attention is drawn to the size and color of the beautiful walls of rock around me. I followed the gravel road around a bend but skidded to a stop when the view in front opened up. The road seemed to disappear into a bowl. There was not one person in sight during peak holiday season, and I just stood there for a while wondering if it was really a dream.
Send Us Your Weekend Snapshot
We’ll be selecting three photos per week to feature in Weekend Snapshot. Send yours along for consideration, and if it’s selected, we’ll be in touch! Note: We prefer 3:2 ratio landscape-oriented photos.
