When Fera Gravel recently published a new route in Serra de Boumort, a little-visited mountain range in Catalunya, two friends and I decided it’d be perfect for a three-day weekend trip. Well aware that the forecast predicted possible snowstorms above 1,500 meters, we decided to give it a go, accepting the possibility of encountering unrideable sections. Both mornings, we woke up to a landscape blanketed in fresh powder. It was an unforgettable riding experience!

Camping up in the páramo next to the frailejones was something I was really looking forward to. Once there, the sheer silence was overwhelming. This was in stark contrast to the usual hustle and bustle in Colombia. Sun and clouds continued to dance until the evening when the rain set in until the next morning. When the sun’s rays fell on the frailejones again and the sky cleared, the rainy camping night was forgotten.

Snow much fun! Embracing the late winter warmth and sunny bluebird skies while fatpacking through Colorado’s winter wonderland west of Buena Vista. Who needs a cozy cabin when you can camp under the stars, listen to the coyotes howl, and pedal miles of groomed winter-use trails on both sides of the Continental Divide!?
