Minneapolis, Minnesota

On this particular Rivendell Ramble Jamble through the twin cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, we rode nettle-filled bandit trails, river bottom doubletrack, and back alleys galore. Shady stops were enjoyed with Burger King Rodeo Burgers and whatever tasty NA beers we had rolling around in the basket bags. Pictured is Eric (@eric_dabbert) with his Rivendell Joe Appaloosa. Fortunately, this summer, we have a proper monsoon season with lots of rain. It’s a different story from four years ago when the mountain above our home was engulfed in wildfire. Seeing a rare window of clear weather this past weekend, I headed out after dinner, set camp in the burn area, and indulged in my love of star trail photography. After a beautiful starry night, I was up early and riding the 13 miles back home, making this a quality sub-12-hour microadventure.

First night Bikepacking! Basically, I just duct-taped some gear on the frame. I had dinner at home, then rode a loop of mainly gravel and ended up close to home. Late night swim then made this camp. I’m going to get some proper bags as it’s all well and good when you’re in the garage taping stuff to the frame, but worse the morning after!
