The Wilde Dog Star is a US-made, retro-inspired ATB that features a double top tube, custom lugs, cantilever brakes, and clearance for 26 x 2.4″ tires. With mid-blade fork mounts, three-pack mounts under the downtube, and rear rack and fender mounts, this could be an ideal option for someone looking for a unique bikepacking rig. Each Dog Star is made to order, so geometry and tubing spec will depend on how each customer specifies their model, but Reynolds 853 is the main spec Wilde and their US-based welder intend to use.
Much like a few of Wilde’s other recent offerings, the Dog Star has some interesting, slightly older standards. Featuring 135mm rear spacing, a 68mm English threaded BB Shell, 1″ threaded headset, and a 27.2 seatpost, the Dog Star is a modern take on the vintage mountain bikes owner Jeff Frane is all too fond of. Per Jeff, “The Dog Star is a fillet brazed, bi-laminate construction, all-terrain bicycle. A mix of classic styling with some modern features thrown in. Great for daily use, bikepacking, touring, exploring, etc.”
The Dog Star also features a Pacenti fork crown, and it can have three-pack mounts added on to the fork blades for an additional $70 charge. Though it’s now available through Wilde’s website, each bike will be made to order. As Wilde says, “If you want one, no two will be exactly alike, we will tailor your Dog Star to your hopes, dreams, aspirations, and physical dimensions.” The Dog Star framesets will retail at $3,900 and are made to order in the USA.
