Now through August 23rd, our friends at Ponderosa Cyclery + Tour in Omaha, Nebraska, are selling re-issued WOMBATS shirts to benefit mountain bike hall of famers Charlie Cunningham and Jacquie Phelan.

Charlie, a framebuilder and one of the founders of Wilderness Trail Bikes (WTB), suffered a head injury while riding in 2015, and Jacquie, his partner and herself a co-founder of NORBA (National Off-Road Bicycle Association), is his full-time caregiver. All profits from these shirts will go toward covering their ongoing medical bills and rehab expenses.

Founded by Jacquie in 1986 after a few years of riding and racing during the early days of the Marin County mountain biking scene, WOMBATS—which stands for Women’s Mountain Bike and Tea Society—was created to foster a welcoming space for women to get into off-road riding. Before long, chapters popped up all around the United States, where rides and skills workshops were hosted to spread the joy of riding on dirt to as many people as possible.

These shirts, which are available in five colors and two sizes, are closely based on the original WOMBATS shirts that Jacquie created in the 90s. When Jessica from Ponderosa Cyclery wanted to buy one some years back, Jacquie said she was all out but agreed to Jessica’s idea of a reprint. Now that things have calmed down following a couple of years of bike boom mayhem and supply chain issues, the shirts are printed and ready to go.

You can purchase a WOMBATS shirt for $27 at OmahaScreenCo.com or donate directly to Charlie’s crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe.com.
