Introducing the Bikepacking Collective Basecamp
After announcing an extensive set of tools and features for our Bikepacking Collective members in 2022, we’re pleased to (finally) present the Bikepacking Collective Basecamp, a web-based application with three new modules: Ride Rendezvous, Ask the Experts, and the Bike Camp Co-op. Read on for details…
PUBLISHED Mar 19, 2025
We launched the Bikepacking Collective in 2018, and the thousands of posts, 13 issues of The Bikepacking Journal, and hundreds of original bikepacking routes we’ve created in that time wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of our members. Throughout the latter half of 2022, we teased a suite of useful tools and utilities for our members. A few of these were released and deployed on the website in 2023 and 2024, including the Bucket List, Ride Log, Route Alerts, and more. However, the grander, centralized application we envisioned took a little longer to see the light of day than we expected! Today is the day, and we’re thrilled to unveil the Bikepacking Collective Basecamp, a web app tailored to connect our members with us and the greater bikepacking community.

With today’s release, Basecamp has three modules, and we’re already scheming more. Here is a quick rundown:

RIDE RENDEZVOUS
Looking for a ride companion(s) to tackle one of the many routes on our site? Or maybe you’re trying to get a group ride together for a shop-led bikepacking ride? Look no further, and plan your Ride Rendezvous! This module allows you to post “Ride Buddy Requests” where members can reply to join your ride—whether that be a segment of the Peru Divide or a short from-town coffee outside ride. The app lets you specify who, where, how many people you’re looking for, and other key details.

ASK THE EXPERTS
The Ask the Experts module allows Builder-level members to ask our team of experienced editors and our global community of members anything. We get a lot of questions, and they come from all angles, so we created this space to field your questions and centralize our answers, whether they pertain to gear choices, route making, or anything else. Supporter- and Sustainer-level members can view questions, but the ability to post questions is limited to Builder-level members only; we appreciate the added support!

BIKE CAMP CO-OP
Originally called “Garage Sale” when we teased it, the Bike Camp Co-op module allows our members to buy, sell, and trade bikes, components, camping equipment, bikepacking bags, and accessories to like-minded folks in the Bikepacking Collective. Plus, you can find excellent, members-only deals on gear our team has reviewed and received. Note that you must be a Sustainer or Builder to list items, but all members can shop. There are already many great bits of kit, and we’ll be adding another big batch next Tuesday!
To commemorate this multi-year achievement, we’ve populated the database with a couple of planned Ride Rendezvous listings and a heaping handful of Bike Camp Co-op listings with some great deals to be found. Dig in to find several bikes, plenty of components and bags, and a variety of camping gear and accessories. As mentioned, our team will also be adding another big batch next Tuesday!

We can’t wait to see members of the Bikepacking Collective put these tools to use, and we’ve already started a list of upgrades that we plan to implement once we learn how folks interact with them—including direct integration between Ride Rendezvous and the routes in our worldwide Bikepacking Route Network!
