The Transibérica BADLANDS is a self-supported gravel bikepacking event following a 750-kilometer route with over 15,000 meters of climbing. The course crosses some of the most remote, diverse, and challenging places in Europe: Sierra Nevada, Gorafe Desert, Tabernas Desert, and Cabo de Gata Natural Park, finishing close to the Veleta Pass. There were over 260 riders registered for this year’s event, split between categories for men, women, and pairs.
This year’s event brought in some well-known and experienced riders, including Sofiane Sehili, Ulrich Bartholmös, Alistair Brownlee, and Christian Meier. In the end, Mattia de Marchi took first place at the event with a time of 45 hours and 54 minutes (1d:21h:54m), and Marion Dziwnik finished first in the women’s category with a time of 3 days, 7 hours, and 11 minutes (3d:7h:11m). The organizers at Transibérica Ultracycling always put together a fantastic event film, and you can watch this year’s 14-minute film below.
“It will be hard, of course, but I think this is part of any beautiful adventure.” -Marion Dziwnik
