Following extended delays and cancellations due to the pandemic, it seems like bikepacking events all over the world are back in full swing. We’ve seen a huge number of new races, group rides, and community-focused gatherings pop up this year, all of which are important for our community and the development of bikepacking as a whole. There have also been a number of event videos released this year, and instead of sharing them individually, we’ve grouped several together this week for you to check out. Watch recap videos from the 2022 Pan Celtic Race, Badlands, Atlas Mountain Race, and West Carpathian Challenge below.

Pan Celtic Race

On July 3rd, 2022, the Pan Celtic Clan gathered once again to embark on an Irish adventure that would see them set off from Celtic Camping, South-West Wales, on a two-wheeled adventure to Ireland and the infamous Wild Atlantic Way. The finish would have them crossing back into North Wales and finishing in the seaside town of Llandudno. This is their story.

Badlands

The Badlands is a non-stop unsupported gravel challenge along the edge of Europe. The route is about 750 kilometers with 15,000 meters of climbing and crosses some of the most remote and challenging places in Europe: Gorafe Desert, Tabernas Desert, Cabo de Gata Natural Park, and Veleta Pass at 3,212 meters. There were nearly 300 riders at this year’s event, many of whom didn’t finish. Watch the 2022 event video below.

West Carpathian Challenge

The West Carpathian Challenge is a 590-kilometer self-supported bikepacking adventure through the Carpathian Mountains in Slovakia. This year was the second edition of the event, and 50 riders finished the route. The organizers changed the route up this year and described it as being “as rideable as possible” with some hike-a-bike and astonishing views that make it all worthwhile. There are English subtitles available for the event video below.

Atlas Mountain Race

Our friend Jeanne Lepoix put together a fantastic look at this year’s Atlas Mountain Race in Morocco. The 2022 edition followed a fixed 1,160-kilometer route on gravel, singletrack, doubletrack, and old colonial pistes that have long been forgotten and fallen into disrepair. Check it out below.
