Leaving their home in Clermont-Ferrand, France, Antoine Bussier and his partner Hélène pedaled across several countries and into a new continent for the latest installment of Bikepacking Colors, an ongoing series highlighting unique places, people, and cultures as experienced from the saddle. This episode documents more than two months on the bike between France and Morocco.
Their mostly off-road route crossed their home country via the GTMC (Grande Traversée du Massif Central) before arriving in Barcelona, Spain, via part of the course used by The Traka gravel race. From there, they crossed the stunning Bardenas Desert en route to the Spanish city of Valladolid. The next leg of their journey took them across Portugal, stopping in Nazaré—home of the iconic surfing waves—and onward to Lisbon and Cap Saint Vincent. Rounding out their time in Europe, they arrived at the Straight of Gibraltar to catch the boat to Morocco, opening up a vivid new chapter of their ride.
The 39-minute video above, in French with English subtitles, offers an in-depth look at their experience of pedaling some 4,000 kilometers across four unique countries. Watch it above, and find a handful of related pieces in the Further Reading grid below.
