True Cargo Bikepacking: An Interview with Erik Binggeser (Video)

In his latest video, Neil catches up with Erik Binggeser, also known as Truemarmalade, to hear about his experiences of cargo-bikepacking many thousands of miles around the U.S. and chat over the decked-out Omnium Titanium Cargo he uses to do so. Watch it here…

Many readers might already be familiar with Erik Binggeser. We’ve covered his bike and travels on this site in the past. However, if you haven’t heard of Erik, he’s something of a legend in the world of bike travel. One of the kindest people you’re likely to meet, he’s also an artist who gave up nearly everything he owned to explore the world by bike. After leaving behind his career and conventional lifestyle following the pandemic, Erik Binggeser hit the road—first in a van, then on a titanium Omnium Cargo bike. In 2023 alone, he rode over 20,000 miles across the U.S., deliberately exploring new streets at a human-powered pace and embracing deep cultural experiences along the way. His Strava data showed he covered more new roads than anyone else worldwide that year, totaling more than 18,000 miles. Erik’s journey emphasizes the richness of slow-paced travel and the magic that can be found by bike in unexpected places.

Erik is approachable and full of great stories. At this year’s Sea Otter Classic, Neil had a chance to catch up with him for an interview. You can watch it below, and then be sure to find links to our written coverage and more photos in the Further Reading grid below.
