2025 Atlas Mountain Race Tracking, Race Updates, and Results
Now in its fifth year, the 2025 Atlas Mountain Race follows a 1,300-kilometer route across the rugged and beautiful Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The course changes slightly each year but follows gravel, singletrack trails, two-track, and old colonial pistes that have long been forgotten and fallen into disrepair.

Robin Gemperle and Lucas Strittmatter Scratch!
by BIKEPACKING.comRobin Gemperle and Lucas Strittmatter were tackling the 2025 Atlas Mountain Race as a pair this year, after Robin won the 2023 AMR riding solo. The duo was pushing hard and were the first pair to reach CP2 and were well on their way to being the fastest pair. According to the event organizers, Lucas was struggling with sore wrists and acknowledged that Robin could likely be pushing harder. Robin posted an Instagram story explaining they’ve made the hard decision to scratch from the race.

An Update from the Front of the Race
by Mel WebbPhotos by Nils Laengner and Stephen Shelesky
Alex McCormack and Benedek Borsos arrived at CP3 just eight minutes apart, both taking the chance for a hot meal and some rest indoors. Alex remained his usual composed self, while Benedek looked a little more hurried and tense. Alex was the first to head back out, leaving 45 minutes ahead of Benedek, looking for any edge he could get.
As the heat of the day intensified, Control Car 1 caught them on the hike-a-bike section at KM956. Alex, true to his “daytime is playtime” mantra from CP2, was having a bit of a dance party, playing rock music out loud as he climbed. Benedek followed steadily behind, though the heat seemed to be wearing on him more. Alex was the first to roll into Aït Baha, stretching out with his legs up and enjoying an omelette he said was closer to shakshuka—suggesting that Control Car 1 stop for one as well.
Control Car 1 is dropping back to check on third-place Drikus Coetzee, who has been steadily gaining on Benedek. Drikus struggled with the cold earlier in the race, but now, as temperatures rise, he’s settling into conditions that suit him better.
They must now cross back over the Atlas and with nearly 4,000m of climbing ahead, including the Moroccan Stelvio, the gap remains razor-thin. It will come down to whether Alex can keep pushing the pace and how much rest, if any, they choose to take. He’s riding incredibly strong, two hours ahead of Justinas’ time at this point last year.

The Grand Depart!
by Mel WebbPhotos by Nils Laengner and Stephen Shelesky
In contrast to the chaos of last year’s edition, registration day unfolded under clear skies and warm temperatures—perfect conditions for lounging by the pool in the company of 265 riders. It’s a day of anticipation, where excitement and nerves go hand in hand.
There was a full bike check, including a mandatory kit inspection. With cold overnight temperatures expected, we want to ensure no one is caught off guard. The afternoon wrapped up with the race briefing, marking the final step before the grand departure.
With ten minutes to spare, which feels like an eternity on days like today, riders lined up outside the Mogador Aqua Fun, their journey about to begin. At exactly 6:00 PM local time, race director Nelson Trees counted down the final seconds, sending them off into the night. A police escort from the gendarmerie guided them out of the city before peeling away, leaving the lead riders to push the pace as the race truly began. Ahead lies Telouet, the first major obstacle in this year’s race. Riders at the head of the race include previous AMR winner Robin Gemperle and previous podium finsher Sebastian Breuer.
We had some technical issues with the tracker early on, but we’re back online now and will be double-checking to ensure everything is 100% in order. You can follow along at the link in our bio and stay tuned for more updates, as well as the first podcast of the race airing tomorrow morning.
