    Day Five Update...

    by Chris Tonge

There are still many riders working toward the finish line. In total 73 Solo and 13 Pairs are trying to complete the 813.84 km track before tomorrow’s deadline at 2:00 p.m.

The riders are quite spread out over the last 250km of the track. For those nearing the end, the strategy is simple: keep moving. At this point, it’s less about speed and more about mental and physical fortitude. They are likely pushing through exhaustion, navigating the final sections of the challenging terrain.

For riders further back, their strategy is a mix of managing rest, nutrition, and bike maintenance to simply complete the distance within the time limit.

    2025 badlands day five

Just like the other days at Badlands this year the most defining factor will be the heat. The high temperature in Granada today is forecast to be 31°C (88°F). This heat, especially during the middle of the day, will be extremely draining for riders who are already deep into a multi-day effort with significant sleep deprivation.

There are approximately 99 solo riders still on the course. They are spread out across a wide range of distances. The largest group of riders, with 51 riders, are within the final 100-200km of the race. This suggests a significant number of riders are pushing to complete the course.

    More Finishers and Mid-Race Update

    by Chris Tonge

Finished Riders: In the Solo category, 30 riders have crossed the finish line. Rick Steffen secured the top spot with an impressive time of 1 day, 14 hours, and 15 minutes. The first four finishers all completed the track in under two days, a testament to their incredible speed and stamina.

However, the times quickly spread out, with later finishers taking over 2 days and 12 hours to complete the same distance. This wide distribution highlights the diverse strategies and pacing adopted by the competitors.

In the Pairs category, four teams have finished. The duo of Adam Jordan & Gregor Lah claimed first, finishing in 1 day, 20 hours, and 39 minutes.

    The Race Continues...

    by Chris Tonge

Solo Riders: There is a tight cluster of riders between the 700km and 800km mark, with Johannes Franzky leading the pack at 802.08 km, followed closely by Anuchi Gago and Christian Stepke. This group is likely pushing hard to be the next to finish.

The main group: A large number of riders are distributed between the 600km and 700km range. The field starts to spread out more as the distance increases, but there’s still a significant concentration here.

The mid-pack: The bulk of the remaining solo riders fall between 450km and 600km.

The tail end: A small group of riders is still in the early stages, below the 400km mark. The last rider who is still active on the course is Muhammad Rizky at 210.87 km, with many riders behind him having already dropped out (DNF).

Pairs: The top three pairs who haven’t finished yet are fairly close to one another, ranging from Inocencio Serra & Jesús Alberto Rubio at 771.87km down to Mathias Duus Møller & Jonas Krarup Kirkegaard at 742.33km. They are all well within a strong position to finish soon.
