The Connected Communities Trail Project is a trail connectivity project spearheaded by the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship that aims to link together 15 Lost Sierra towns via existing dirt roads and new trails. The hope is that trails and public land access will be the new Gold Rush to help buoy their struggling economies by attracting ecotourism, and even new residents, in order to fill the void left by vanished industries.

Produced by Lost Sierra Productions, Lost on Purpose is a video journey through this stunningly beautiful region by bike and an introduction to a few of the local businesses ready to welcome adventurers who choose to come and explore this vast landscape. It’s a primer for gravel seekers to get out and see this little-traveled region of Northern California and experience the adventure that the Lost Sierra Route will bring.

The good news is that hundreds of miles of dirt roads already exist from Susanville to Truckee and Verdi to Jonesville, as well as more than 2,000 miles of Forest Service roads in the Lost Sierra, so there’s already plenty of adventure to be had today. The Lost Sierra Route will be over 600 miles when all of the singletrack town connector trails are built and added to the ready-to-ride forest roads.
