Andrew Strempke finished the 2022 edition of the 310-mile Pinyons and Pines Bikepacking Race in 35 hours and 37 minutes, racking up 25,000 feet of climbing along the way. After battling it out with Jacob Miller, Matthew Turner, Ezra Ward-Packard, and Matt Bowe through the night, Andrew eventually broke from the pack a couple of hours after the sun came up. Andrew took one short nap last night but otherwise maintained a consistent pace from start to finish.
Unfortunately, both Jacob Miller and Ezra Ward-Packard dropped out on day two. Matthew Tuner finished in second place, about an hour and a half behind Andrew. Matt Bowe and Andy Wentzel finished together roughlu two and a half hours later. A few other riders trickled in late last night, and we’ll have some more finishers rolling in this morning.
At this time, Andrew’s wife Katie is leading the women’s race. She took the lead after Chase Edwards dropped out very early this morning. Lauren Brownlee, who set the women’s FKT of the Ride Across Arizona just a few days ago, is in second place (with a 40mm rear tire!). Katie currently has about a 20-mile lead and should be able to hold Lauren off with a finish in the top 10 overall.
