A few months ago, we were contacted about a new bikepacking route in Northern Thailand. We’d been talking to a mutual friend about the potential for routes in the area for years, specifically in relation to the cycling hub built around Triple Cats Cycle in Chiang Mai. We’re more than excited to finally see this come to fruition with the help of writer/photographer Sam Rice. In this video interview, route creators Sam and Pnuc talk about what to expect from the route, some of their personal highlights, and what makes Thailand such a fantastic place to ride. Watch it below, then scroll down for a link to the route.

The Lanna Kingdom is a 333-kilometer bikepacking loop based in Northern Thailand. Starting in Chiang Mai, it weaves riders through a crocheted masterpiece of tropical terrain, from dusty dirt roads and vibrant forest trails to banana plantations and elephant grazing grounds. Mix in delicious food, brilliant sunrises, gracious locals, abundant camping, and unique hill tribe cultures, and it’s easy to see why Thailand is known as “the land of smiles.” Find the guide here.
