New to Bespoked, the European handmade bike show, is a build-off with an “apocalypse-ready” theme that’s sure to inspire some of the coolest and most off-the-wall builds the event has ever seen. For more on the contest, dive in below…
New to this year’s Bespoked show in Manchester, England, is a build-off competition with the theme of “apocalypse-ready” bikes in which contestants are encouraged to use old or broken parts to create a bike worthy of surviving the end of the world. While exhibitors can enter for free, the cost for entry into this build-off is £250 for independent bike shops, mechanics, and builders. Included with the entry are ten full-weekend tickets to the show, a branded plinth to display your bike in the upper viewing gallery of the main hall, and a PDF manual outlining the build criteria and scoring sheet.

For readers who aren’t familiar, Bespoked is Europe’s largest bi-annual exhibition of custom bicycles, with a focus on celebrating the sustainability of frame building. The show offers a unique opportunity to delve deep into frame-building culture and meet some of the world’s most highly regarded makers.
Seeing these shows add more chances for individual creativity is always cool. While an end-of-the-world bike is seemingly all too relevant today, the outlandish nature of some of the existing builds pictured here is great. From the practical to the seemingly impossible, we’re excited to see what contestants come up with.
