This edition of Weekend Snapshot is all about appreciation for the places we ride and the friends with whom we share the trails. Find a few reader-submitted scenes from recent getaways in Germany, Finland, and the United States here…
In today’s Weekend Snapshot, we pause to recognize the value of beautiful places to pedal, the time to do so, and the people who join us for the ride. Spanning two corners of Europe and the West Coast of the United States, our readers highlight some meaningful places and share memories from their weekend jaunts. Browse all three below, then scroll further to find some related posts and a form to share a photo from one of your adventures.
Los Angles, California

By Kyle Ponce
It’s been over two months since the Eaton and Palisades fires tore through our mountains, taking homes, livelihoods, and, of course, many beloved trails. With closures expected to last most of the year, we mountain bikers have had to get creative to get our fix. Pictured here is my go-to after-work loop at Ernest E. Debs Park, or “Debs,” as it’s affectionately known. Winding singletrack, native California scrub, and golden sunsets offer enough to keep us rolling while the big mountains beyond take their time to heal.
Uusimaa, Finland

A cold, dark, and windy after-work overnighter, also known as the perfect way to pitch up a new tent for the first time. These are maybe my favorite type of overnighters. It is a great way to start a weekend. A shorter ride to camp to enjoy the light and warmth of a campfire. Waking up to the fresh air. Enjoy a cup of coffee and ride a longer way back home just in time for lunch or stopping on the way for a second breakfast.
Brandenburg, Germany

By Josh Meissner
The birds have been singing spring’s arrival, and Brandenburg was the place to be last weekend, the land still pastel in thin winter light. We woke up with frost on our sleeping bags but changed into shorts before noon. I put together a wayfinding challenge for my friends, no right or wrong way. We got properly lost, slept in someone’s field, spotted the returning cranes, and enjoyed second breakfasts and mutual company. A beautiful adventure in our backyard. Thank you.
Send Us Your Weekend Snapshot
We’ll be selecting three photos per week to feature in Weekend Snapshot. Send yours along for consideration, and if it’s selected, we’ll be in touch! Note: We prefer 3:2 ratio landscape-oriented photos.
