Florian Haussler of Fern Bicycles and Allygn Components in Berlin is known for his carefully considered, beautifully built bikes, and his latest creation is something special. The new Fern Empathy Ways 650B All-Road is a two-wheeled work of art that’s worth pausing to take in. Take a peek at it here…
It’s always a good day when there’s a new gallery up on the Fern Bicycles site, and today’s is a real stunner. Builder Florian Haussler in Berlin worked with customer Marco on this one-of-a-kind “Empathy Ways” 650B All-Road for an upcoming trip around southeastern Europe and Asia, and the result is a colorful and capable rig that looks ready for loaded riding just about anywhere.
This is Fern’s first UDH-compatible frame, featuring UDH dropouts designed by Karamba Frameworks and CNC-machined in Poland by Jacek Orlowski. The build features a SRAM AXS Force XPLR derailleur, a SON Ladelux headlight and an Allygn EdelMü taillight, a carbon cockpit and seatpost from Deda, custom wheels from Schneckenberg Cycling, Rene Herse tires, a full suite of matching Gramm Tourpacking bags, and more.
The most striking aspect of the Empathy Ways is the custom graffiti-inspired paint from Mario at Wide Ways in Leipzig. The frame and fork are covered in purple and pink logos, tags, faces, and hidden messages that reveal something new with each look. Overall, it’s a uniquely cohesive concept, rich in color-matched details, and it looks like a ton of fun for light-and-fast touring. Kudos to Florian for another spectacular build, and have a great ride, Marco!
