The New Wolf Tooth Axle-Handle Multi-Tool: First Look

Wolf Tooth Components just added a new tool to its lineup. The made-in-the-USA Axle-Handle Multi-Tool it as simple as it gets, providing six functions in an integrated press-fit handle that pops into a Wolf Tooth thru-axle. We just got one and grabbed a few exclusive photos for the release…

Where else might Wolf Tooth Components figure out they can stash tools, you ask? The rear axle handle, of course. The new Wolf Tooth Axle Handle Multi-Tool is an extremely minimal tool that covers six hex-bit functions. With easy exterior access at the end of an axle, it makes for a handy tool that’s well suited to quick adjustments.

On one side of the handle is a stepped hex end with a 5mm end and 6mm profile closer to the handle. The 5mm bit is for tool usage and the 6mm step essentially plugs into axle. There’s also a small indentation that secures the handle via a press-fit O-ring on the threaded nut that’s included with the tool. The nut is compatible with Wolf Tooth rear axles that have female threaded axle bolt.

The tool just came in last night and I fitted it to my Tumbleweed Stargazer, so I haven’t had a chance to ride with it yet. However, the press-fit is sturdy and the magnet is strong, so I don’t doubt everything will stay in place. I’ll update this post otherwise.

The other side of the handle has a 4mm recessed area that allows two double-sided hex bits to nest inside of the handle, held in place by a powerful magnet. The Wolf Tooth Axle-Handle Multi-Tool uses the same bits as the 8-Bit System and EnCase System multi-tools. It comes with four double-sided hex bits: 2, 2.5, 3, and 4mm hex; flat head #3.5 and Phillips #2 screwdrivers; and T10 and T25 Torx bits.

The Wolf Tooth Axle-Handle Multi-Tool is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum at Wolf Tooth’s shop in Minnesota and is available in eight colors that match other Wolf Tooth anodized color accents: black, red, blue, orange, purple, gold, silver, and green.

With a growing array of multi-tools in Wolf Tooth’s arsenal, there’s a lot to choose from—and Wolf Tooth just released the 6-bit tool today, too. The Axle-Handle Multi-Tool doesn’t exactly cover everything like their 8-bit system. But if you’re someone who likes to make regular adjustments on the fly, or needs to remove an axle regularly, it might be a handy addition to your kit. And it only weighs 25 grams.
