The latest release from AeroPress is a fully stainless-steel version of their cult-classic coffee brewer. Find details on the new AeroPress Steel and weigh in on whether or not you can see yourself using it here…

Despite the now-classic AeroPress Original boasting a nearly perfect design for brewing coffee from the comforts of home and while out wandering, the brand has been launching new brewers faster than we can keep up with since its 2021 acquisition. On the heels of the AeroPress Go Plus, AeroPress XL, and AeroPress Premium, among others, comes the new AeroPress Steel. Part of the Traveler’s Collection, it’s made entirely of 304 stainless steel and features a double-walled, vacuum-insulated brewing chamber that AeroPress claims offers better heat retention than any of its other brewers.

In use, the AeroPress Steel works almost identically to the proven AeroPress Original that countless coffee lovers have relied on over the past two decades, making a great cup of coffee in just two minutes with minimal fuss or clean-up. Creating the brewer from steel no doubt makes it incredibly durable, though in my years of brewing with the plastic Original, I’ve found it to be nearly indestructible. I can’t say the same for the many glass and ceramic brewers and carafes I’ve broken in that time.

Hardwearing and premium-looking as it may be, the new AeroPress Steel’s size makes it something only the most die-hard coffee outside makers are likely to haul into the backcountry. The compactness and light weight of the Original are two of its greatest strengths, and the AeroPress Steel has a larger footprint, measuring 6.75″ x 4.375″ when packed down, versus 5.25″ x 4.2″ for the Original. Still, with the added size comes added capacity—the Steel holds 12 ounces, up from 10 ounces in the Original. As for weight, the plastic version comes in at around 185 grams, and the new metal version weighs more than three times that at 660 grams for the plunger, chamber, and filter cap.

With the new premium material comes a premium price; the lauded Original brewer costs $39.95, and the AeroPress Steel is priced at a hefty $169.95. It’s available in Silver or Black and is in stock and shipping now. You can find more details at AeroPress.com.
