In celebration of their second anniversary, ALT Cycles in Tokyo, Japan, just released a unique new bike called the Snakehead. Find photos, specs, and details on the ALT Cycles Snakehead here…

Tokyo’s ALT Cycles is celebrating its second anniversary with a new handmade bike called Snakehead. Inspired by the “X-type” frames of Bianchi’s RAGNO series in the late 1980s, the Snakehead has two offset top tubes, including a twin top tube that runs between the top of the seat tube and the base of the head tube. At first glance, it looks like it could make a highly capable all-weather commuter or an ATB bikepacking rig.

The ALT Cycles Snakehead is built up around a handmade steel frame and fork, 27.2mm seatpost, 68mm bottom bracket, quick-release axles, and supports both rim (26″ only) and IS disc brakes. It has clearance for 26 x 2.3″, 27.5 × 2.0″, or 700c x 42mm tires, plus sliding dropouts, a kickstand plate, and external cable routing.

The Snakehead has triple pack mounts on each fork leg, one standard bottle mount in the main triangle, an additional bottle mount on the back side of the seat tube (all sizes except small), and the twin top tube can double as a platform to strap cylindrical items to. The frame is packed full of interesting little details, including cable routing that passes right through the middle of the seat tube and lots of interesting angles.

Alt Cycles is offering the Snakehead as a frame-only, fork-only, or as a frameset with the matching fork. Since they have a paint both in their shop, they can customize the finish of the Snakehead, including gradients, and customers can select the decal colors too. The Snakehead is also available in a raw finish, as pictured here.

The Alt Cycles Snakehead comes in three sizes: small, medium, and large. All sizes have a 68° head tube angle, 73-74° seat tube angle, and 445mm chainstays. The unpainted frame costs ¥162,800 ($1,070) and the frameset costs ¥220,000 ($1,450). For a raw/waxed finish, the frame and frameset will set you back ¥187,000 ($1,230) or ¥253,880 ($1,670), respectively. The fork starts at ¥59,400 ($390). Only unpainted and raw/wax finishes are available for online purchases.
