Bellingham-based Baphomet Bicycles is raffling off a handmade singlespeed hardtail to benefit Ride Group, an organization focused on bridging the gap between cycling business, sport, and LGBTQ+ communities. We had a chance to check the bike out in person yesterday at the MADE bike show, where we caught up with Baphomet founder Dillen Maurer. Learn more here…

Since their launch in 2020, Baphomet Bicycles has donated 50% of all profits to organizations that aim to make the world a better place. Owner and operator Dillen Maurer has worked in the cycling industry all his life and remains stoked about it but thinks the industry could do better. “It’s not a way to make money,” Dillen explained, “Just imagine how good the cycling community could be if Specialized donated 2% of their profits…”

Next on the list of groups Baphomet is supporting: Ride Group, an organization dedicated to bridging the gap between cycling business, sport, and LGBTQ+ communities. The decision to support their efforts was conceived after the recent restrictions implemented by the UCI to ban trans women from competing in their events. “Now seems like a really good time to get behind our friends in the cycling community who are being excluded.”

About the Bike

The bike that’s up for grabs is a beautiful trail hardtail. This is was the first stainless mountain bike made by Baphomet. In Dylan’s words, “It was a fun chance to learn something new, and I’m hoping whoever takes it home is excited to rip around on it or maybe even get out on their first bikepacking trip.”

Baphomet Bicycles likes to use as many made-in-the-USA components as possible on their bikes, including this hardtail. It’s a pretty decked-out rig that features parts from Paul Components, Doom Bars, White Industries, Astral, PNW Components, Loam Equipment, Ergon, Wolf Tooth, Cafe Velo Bellingham, and SRAM.
