The new Beast Components Hybrid Bar is an interesting carbon drop bar designed to work with flat-bar shifters and brakes. You can find more details and photos of it here…
Drop bars for bikepacking and long-distance riding make sense for many riders. Having multiple hand positions is a huge benefit over flat bars, but depending on your setup, they don’t usually match up with flat-bar components. Surly paved the way with the Corner Bar, a steel drop bar for mountain bike components, and we’ve seen a few other variations on that design come out since then.
Germany’s Beast Components just released their take on a drop bar for mountain bikes, offering a similar overall package as the Surly Corner Bar, but in carbon! The Beast Components Hybrid Bar is a carbon drop bar designed especially for use with flat bar/MTB shifters and brake levers. Unlike the Corner Bar, the “hoods” of the Hybrid Bar don’t provide a place for mounting components. Instead, both shifters and brake levers must be mounted in the upper portion of the drop.
The Hybrid Bar uses a standard 31.8mm clamping area, shallow 95mm drop, and comes in a single 460mm hood-to-hood/600mm drop-to-drop width option. There is a 4° backsweep and 20° flare, which isn’t quite as dramatic as the Corner Bar. The Hybrid bar comes in a black UD finish and costs €499 (~$542 USD), making it one of the most expensive bars we’ve shared here on the site.
