YouTuber Terry Barentsen recently went on a bikepacking trip through rural Pennsylvania, and he livestreamed the whole thing. Joined by Kyle from Outer Shell and another friend, it was Terry’s latest experiment in combining a love for streaming with bikepacking adventures…

YouTuber and cycling streamer Terry Barentsen recently took to the Great Allegheny Pass and Canal and Towpath trails though Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland while live streaming. Though Terry has gained recognition for documenting fixie bike culture and alley cat racing in New York and other major cities, he’s taken on a few bikepacking trips of his own over the last few years.

Inexplicably combining his capacity to livestream and bikepack, Terry had his work cut out for him with this venture, as many segments of the combined 300+ mile trails are largely remote and densely forested, inhibiting cell service, much less streaming to YouTube. That said, Terry armed himself with a Starlink unit and took a whack at it as a trial run for a much larger trip in Europe later this summer. Though the results of the stream were, according to Terry, mixed, it was still an interesting experiment and one that taught him a great deal for upcoming trips. With streaming still being a relatively new technology, it’s fascinating to see Terry effectively pioneer the video genre of daily livestreams while bikepacking.
