With no screen, no playback, and a timeless look inspired by the Super 8 cameras of yesteryear, the new Camp Snap CS-8 Digital Super 8 Camera looks like a fun and nostalgic way to capture memories. Pre-orders are now open, and you can learn more here…
Camp Snap, the makers of the most charming screen-free digital camera, have grown quite a following since releasing their first camera in 2023. Founded by Brian and Melanie, two former summer campers from Toronto, Ontario, the Camp Snap camera has received some clever updates since its launch, and it now features a 8MP F/1.8 sensor, a pre-installed 4GB memory card, a built-in flash, a USB-C port for charging and file transfer, and a Li-ion rechargeable battery capable of taking 500 photos/charge. I picked up the latest version last year and included it in my 2024 Editor’s Dozen, and Camp Snap was nice enough to give three random Bikepacking Collective members a Camp Snap of their own for Collective Reward #203.
If the lo-fi still image quality of the Camp Snap camera isn’t enough, photography and videography enthusiasts will be excited to learn that Camp Snap is entering the video world. The new Camp Snap CS-8 Digital Super 8 Camera takes nostalgia to a whole new level by bringing the magic of Super 8 cameras to the digital realm. Like the Camp Snap Camera, the CS-8 has no playback screen and no instant previews, capturing both video and audio on any standard SD card.
You can switch between four aspect ratios: 9:16 for reels, 16:9 for cinematic widescreen, 1:1 for social-ready squares, and 4:3 for classic home movie feels. It’s pre-loaded with five film-style filters: faded sepia, grainy analog, washed retro tones, black and white, or clean, standard film look. There are retro touches, such as analog meters for battery level and memory, zoom buttons, and a cute little aspect ratio selector knob.
The CS-8 Digital Super 8 Camera is available for pre-order today at a discounted price of $149 USD (normally $199). Pre-orders open at 11 a.m. EST. Head over to CampSnapPhoto.com to be notified.
