The all-new Campagnolo Ekar GT groupset introduces an alloy crankset with a smaller chainring, plus a 10-48-tooth cassette for a wide-range 13-speed drivetrain that’s less expensive than the original Ekar group. Find all the details here…
Campagnolo just launched Ekar GT, offering a wide-range 1×13 drivetrain with the combination of four cassette options (9-36, 9-42, 10-44, and 10-48) and five chainrings (44, 42, 40, 38, and the new 36). With the addition of the smaller chainring and 10-48T cassette, this launch marks Campagnolo’s widest gear range and lowest gearing for the 1×13 platform. Find a quick summary of each of the main components, some weights, and pricing below.
Campagnolo Ekar GT 13-speed cassette
The Ekar GT 13-speed cassette is available in four different options, from 9/36 to 10/48, which reflect different needs on the gravel and adventure scene. All of them boast small jumps for the first six sprockets, which increase in the second half with the larger sprockets. Two of the four combinations have a 9-tooth sprocket, which Campy claims has no additional friction because of its special-profile tooth design.
Construction of the EKAR GT cassette retains the same and is based on a N3W freewheel body with a single block for the larger sprockets, five individual sprockets with 7075 aluminum spacers, and a triple or quadruple for the small cluster.
Here are the weights according to Campy: 340 grams (9-36T); 380 grams (9-42T); 400 grams (10-44T); 435 grams (10-48T)
Ekar GT Ergopower control levers and Caliper
Campagnolo tweaked the Ekar GT Ergopower control levers a little bit, which they claim makes them even more comfortable on longer rides. The Ekar GT Ergopower brake lever now has a greater reach adjustment range, and for control off-pavement, the brake lever hoods now have additional texture. The Ekar brake system’s internal hydraulics are the same as other Campagnolo calipers, using mineral oil, DB310 pads, and the same internals. They just got a facelift to match the new group design.
Campagnolo Ekar GT Crankset
The new Ekar GT alloy crankset has a similar interface to the original, joining the two semi axles inside the bottom bracket with a single bolt. The oversize stainless steel bearing race is on the crank, fitted onto the semi axle, which makes it easy to access for inspection and maintenance. There are five chainring options available: 36T, 38T, 40T, 42T, 44T in a 104mm bolt circle diameter (BCD). The Ekar GT crankset comes in three crank length options: 170, 172.5, and 175 mm with a Q factor of 151mm. According to Campagnolo, the 172.5mm crankset with a 38-tooth chainring weighs 850 grams.
Campagnolo Ekar GT rear derailleur
The Ekar GT rear derailleur has been redesigned to be compatible with the different sizes of the cassette sprockets, from 9-36 to 10-48. It has larger pulley wheels and a permanently engaged clutch, which according to Campy, works better for chain retention. Campy states that the derailleur weighs 310 grams.
While we don’t have pricing for all the individual components, the press release we received stated the groupset MSRP at $1,599 (down from $1,729 for Ekar’s original release) with a total weight of 2,700 grams. You can find more details over at Campagnolo.com.
