Our latest Collective Reward giveaway comes from the team at WholeGrain Cycles, who will be setting up two randomly selected members of our Bikepacking Collective with one of their highly celebrated JACK the Bike Racks, around a $100 value for each lucky winner. In case you missed all the buzz at the time it was announced on Kickstarter in October 2021 (and was 5,000 percent crowdfunded), JACK the Bike Rack is an innovative front rack that doesn’t require any rack mounts and has a fit that’s about as close to universal as we’ve ever seen.
Built from stainless steel, JACK is officially rated to carry a five-kilogram (11-pound) payload, and it attaches to your handlebars without any tools in less than a minute, making taking it on or off or swapping between bikes a breeze. Miles had a pre-production version on for an extended testing period prior to its launch, and he called it both “ingenious” and a “gamechanger” in his review. After well over a year of regular use, he stands by those labels. “It just works. It’s easy,” he said when I asked him how he’s getting along with it today.
Each JACK the Bike Rack comes with everything you need to fit it to your bike. The full kit includes shims for 25.4mm and 31.8mm, bungee and cam-lock stem load straps, and a removable fabric base that attaches with velcro. The racks are offered in black or grey, both of which are coated. You can find more details over at WholeGrainCycles.com, though note that they’re still not available for purchase there.
